THE PROCESS OF FLOOR SANDING

An article about the process of floor sanding and how Lee at LT Floors performs his floor sanding restoration on both domestic and commercial flooring.

How does floor sanding work?

Nothing enhances the look of any home or office like a beautifully sanded natural wooden floor.

Lee at LT Floors learnt about sanding and finishing techniques for wooden floors a few years ago now. He has worked on high end and luxury developments where the standard of floor finishes are extremely high and knowing all the newest and best techniques were essential.

To restore an already existing wooden floor the standard procedure would be:

1) Strip the floor to Natural wood removing scratches and dents and taking any finish off the floor.

2) To help minimize the dust all machines are fitted with extractors.

3) Hard to reach corners and edges are reached using other tools such as a "Multi Master" Edging Sander.

4) An "Orbital Sander" will then give the floor a smooth and polished look in preparation for the professional finish.

5) The floor is now ready to be varnished, lacquered, stained, waxed or oiled according to the client's wishes. LT Floors takes a lot of time over this process as after each application the floor is rubbed down again to ensure the flooring is left with the smoothest finish possible.

Floor Sanding ProcessHOW DOES IT WORK?

The process for sanding and refinishing your wooden floors involves the following:

  1. First we will clean your flooring thoroughly in preparation for sanding.
  2. Sanding the wooden floors - next we begin sanding the wooden floor until all the old surface is removed and smoothed out.
  3. Staining the wooden floor - if you have decided to have the floor stained rather than leaving the natural colour of the wood then the wooden floor is now stained with one or two coats.
  4. Finishing the wooden floors - Once the staining is complete and dry the floors are coated and given a professional finish with a polyurethane lacquer. Once the floors are finished they will look amazing and you won't believe it is the same floor!
